Poetry of Me

IMG_1769.jpg

Poetry of Me by Angelle M. Barrett is a collection of poems split into four different chapters: Black Goddess Blues, Wonders, Radicalization, and the Idea of Love.  P.O.M tells the story of being a Black Woman and the many difficulties that we face. The chapters take you on the journey of the experiences of a 20-year-old Jamaican Black Woman, random thoughts, stories of systemic oppression, and the imaginations of love.

Protection is a piece that was created to highlight the uproar within the Black Community. As a Black Woman, sometimes it seems as if Black Men do not do their job of protecting Black Women. This piece highlights my personal experiences and what I've witnessed. I do appreciate and love the Black Men who protect us, but for the ones who are disrespectful and have so much hate towards Black Women, this one is for you. Please take the time to heal.

Scared, not Fearless

Chapter 1: Black Goddess Blues

Scared not Fearless is a piece that I wrote to speak on how I feel as a Black Woman. A lot of the time, Black Women are told that they are fearless and strong, and I am not fearless. This poem highlights my fears and the things that I hope to change for my future.
